The members of Fairview Community Church selected Reverend Doctor Monica Corsaro as our Settled Senior Pastor in January 2023. Her career combines traditional ministry and political activism, serving diverse communities in Washington State, Illinois, Colorado, and now Southern California.
Before coming to Fairview Community Church, Reverend Doctor Monica Corsaro led United Methodist and Christian Church, Disciples of Christ congregations in the Seattle area, and served a variety of higher education communities and settings, as campus minister at the University of Washington, chaplain of community engagement at Monmouth College, University Chaplain at Illinois Wesleyan and Director of Spiritual Life at Knox College.
She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from Illinois State University, a Master of Divinity degree from Iliff School of Theology, and a doctoral degree from Wesley Theological Seminary.
Pastor Monica is a strong advocate for social causes. She has served as Director of Social Justice Ministries for the Church Council of Greater Seattle and was the first-ever chaplain in the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. While serving as the pastor of Rainier Beach United Methodist Church in Seattle, she challenged the Boy Scouts of America after they removed a member of her congregation from his role as the scoutmaster due to his sexual orientation. She, her scoutmaster, and the troop of Rainier Beach United Methodist Church won that battle… and today local troops do indeed have autonomy. Not only can they have LGBTQI scoutmasters, but women scoutmasters too! All thanks to a small church in a neighborhood sticking to their values.
Pastor Monica joins the Fairview Community Church congregation in welcoming people of all races, languages, ages, genders, sexual orientations, physical or mental abilities, economic or marital statuses, and faith backgrounds. Pastor Monica is so glad to be here and would love to see you here too! When we say “all”, we mean ALL!
